With Fall here, the students take to the farm to h

With Fall here, the students take to the farm to harvest what has been growing through the Spring and Summer. The different classes tend to harvest different things, this year, our older students are harvesting sweet potato and daikon (Japanese radish), while our younger students will be harvesting apples.

Included here are pictures and video from our trip to harvest sweet potatoes. Beyond learning about the process and getting hands on time on a farm, the children can relate the work involved in making the food they enjoy.

It also tends to help children be more interested in eating the veggies and fruits —as they have more of a connection to the process.

This month, the Oak Class had the honor of hosting

This month, the Oak Class had the honor of hosting and working with cardboard artist Taki Tamada. During an art trip to the WHAT Museum, the children had a chance encounter with the artist, which led to this special collaborative project.

After a class vote, the children chose to create a crocodile. Together with the artist, they followed each step of the process from beginning to end, bringing their creative vision to life.

SPORTS DAY Every October, we get together the fami

SPORTS DAY
Every October, we get together the families at the school to do our style of the Japanese event called "Undoukai" or Sports Day. This event is one of the favourites for everyone in the school year.

All of our classes, families, and staff join teams that span all of our age groups for a little fun competition. Activities include ones for the children, adults, and a mix, focusing on fun and also encouraging a healthy lifestyle for everyone.

Importantly, both children and adults participate, so children can see their families and teachers having just as much fun being silly and active.

All the teams compete not just in the events but also which group has the most team spirit, through outfits, team chants, and cheering on the competitors.

Some of our games are silly, some get competitive, they all help add up to a day that we can get together as a community and have fun.

THANK YOU to all of the RST families for making it another successful and fun Sports Day this year!!
